We're not so different

If you know me, chances are you know I don't follow any religion. You may know that I sometimes rail against Christianity.  You may also know, I have similar feelings for most religions.

What you may not know  is,  I have no desire to end your religion. I will never knock on your door at 7:00am Saturday morning to tell you, " God does not exist. You are not going to Hell if you don't change."

I do not wish you harm because you pray to a god of your understanding. Regardless of whether it's  Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Santeria, Sikhism, Hinduism,  Paganism, or whatever, you are very close to my feelings on religion. That is, you disbelieve all of them, save yours. I just don't believe yours either.

I have no belief in 4,200 religions, the theist has no belief in 4,199 religions.
See, We are the same :-)

Namaste.

I believe that we each have a gentle cabbage-soul, and when we die, it turns into a swan and pecks the eyes out of all the infidels.

So wear goggles.

I'm the same way about religion. My view is those who have a need for something to believe in, they do so for hope. Whatever helps them through their day, so be it. Me? I'll find my own brand of hope without the religious dogma. (Hugs)Indigo

And I believe you are free to believe anything your heart desires. We just disagree on who or what, grants those rights to you. In my case, they are endowed by my Creator. In your case, they are granted by the government that rules over you.

Actually, I believe all the religions/creation stories are right/OK/acceptable and I'm cool with all of them. I follow the faith I was born into because it makes the most sense to me on a cellular level-it doesn't harm anyone if practiced in it's benevolent original form. Dude, have you ever read any Matthew Fox or Gnostic Gospels? I am not Christian but for a recovering Christian, which I suspect you may be, it might give you some laughs. Also, who in G-d's name rang your bell at 7AM? Now that MUST have been an atheist or agnostic! hahahahaha now that's funny. she's funny that one. Peace out.

Mac, your doorbell allusion reminds me of one of my famous Halloween decorations (my favorite holiday after all). It was right before I got married. The neighbors were appalled but what ever. I had some police tape around my front porch, a chalk outline, and a couple of watchtowers tossed about...

FB, is that like a Kimchi thing?

Indigo, Yes. I know it gives some foks solace. But too many try to use religion to subjugate others. Hugs back atcha.

KW, where do I start?
Would that be the same government that allows you the rights as well? What of all the people living in oppressive regimes around the globe? Does your god not endow the same rights on them? Why America and not China, Afghanistan, or Norh Korea ? Does your god not like them?

Mark, I think she's on to something there. It's the Kimchi thing ?

verymissmary, Good to meet you :-)
I think as long as yu don't hurt anyone, you'll be OK. I only get one Saturday a month off work, it didn't seem funny at the time :-P

Interesting post. As you may have gathered from some of the posts on my blog I do have a faith in God, but I'm not interested in converting anyone else or pushing my faith down anyones throat. I know what I believe in, and that's all that matters to me. Sounds selfish I suppose, but there are enough people out there that do preach and try and convert others, that I don't feel I have to.

Yes, Senorita, I do !
I guess that makes me polytheistic ;-)

Joey, I think your OK with it. If more of us had your attitude, religion wouldn't be an issue.

T4T, what can I say? Thanks :-)

Yes Mac and sometimes you encounter things that augment your beliefs...

Pliny, you have laid bare an udderly beautiful concept. I will milk the idea for what it's worth.

I'll be sure to keep you abreast of any further enhancements on this conception.

My religion--live a life that allows you to know that the world is a better place because you were here.

And I know this sounds horrible, but all I could think of when you wrote about not knocking on doors on Sunday mornings was, "I wish certain religious groups would extend the same courtesy" since there are times that I've felt literally stalked by certain religious sects ...
