forgive me

We see the idea of forgiveness bantied about a lot in relation to religion. I'm not really sure I need to be forgiven for much, on a spirital level anyway.

I have wronged a bit in the past. I think most of the ladies have forgiven me my transgressions.

But this makes me question the need for forgiveness from a creator type being. Why would he need to forgive us for acting like he made us ?

Yes, forgive me my personal transgressions. Punish me if I break the law. But, why would I seek frgiveness from a god that created me to be how I am?

It is the nature of a god to be petty, demanding & vindictive. The gods have always been like that.
You'd have to be on an ego trip to be a god.

On Your Knees Mortal! ;)

I've been wondering the same things myself.

I like the concept of forgiveness in regards to ourselves. Some days its impossible to get the person we may have slighted to forgive us due to situational stuff. So in a sense, if you have a belief that on some cosmic level you are forgiven for these transgressions whats wrong with that? I dont think you need a guy to be nailed to a cross to achieve that though. ;)

Hahaaaaaaaaaaa, soooooooo brilliantly summed up. Thank God he doesn't exist, eh? I mean, it scares me to even THINK how fucked up he would need to be.

(Looking over my shoulder)I think I just got zapped, my first comment came out scrambled..

There's really not an answer, SoccerMom.

Anon, You're welcome ???

Heff, start away !

Yes, Rita. I have been known to bow... if the "altar" is right ;-)

MZ, Exactly !

Tit4Tat, I'm not even sure I need to be forgiven. Bt you're right. The guy on the cross is a silly concept. I will expand on that later, I hope.

Shrinky, I am humbly honored that a writer as colorful as you thinks I summed something up decently ;-)

Yes Candice. In fact, it is non-sense !

Ily, I think I'd be more suited to one of your Art classes ;-)

Good question.
And why would just asking for forgiveness make it all better? Doesn't that just give you permission to do anything you want as long as you go through the steps to be forgiven later?

Kaylen,
It's like a "get out of jail free" card.

You pose an interesting question. I don't have the answer. I have possible theories, but I don't feel like having religious debates.

We can debate things like cats or dogs or boobs or butts. Hondas or Harleys of whether you should wear a motorcycle helmet or have the freedom to not wear one at all......

mac said...

Well, I might like boobs AND butts ???

First,

I hope you wear a blasted helmet mac.

Second,

The concept presented actually does make sense. A specific culture with differing worldviews and god/s, than everybody else's becoming universalized.

I really liked the video mac, but context cuts believers' assumed premise to the quick. That the claim was always universal.

Something something BCE:

A guy from one tribe: "This proposition is for the world!"

A guy from another tribe: "Bullshit. It's for Leroy and Bob's tribe three days away as the crow flies, but they have better weapons/more people/ charismatic leaders/wonderful artisans, so our tribe is fucked."

The first guy: "Heresy! Kill this man in the name of the god of Leroy, Bob, and Jorge."

Welcome to the beginning of world religions.

Got to say you've raised some interesting questions or ideas here.

I might hang around for a while...just to see where this journey leads.
