Christmas is Christian?

Ok, so the holiday we call Christmas does have the word Christ in it. But, what about all those traditional Christmas customs?

Let's begin with the timing.  If one reads the Bibe, it certainly points to a time other than late December as the birth of Jesus. Oddly enough, many pagan rituals predating Jesus' birth take place in this time of year. Late December, specifically, the 25th, seems to be the time of birth for many deities - all predating Jesus.

Now then, what about those trees? Our beautiful Christmas trees, surely they are strictly christian in nature? Sorry, no they are not. The use of evergreen trees is a European pagan tradition. The evergreen symbolized rebirth to these pagans and was used in the celebration of the winter solstice. Which occurs, amazingly enough,  in late December. These was referred to as the celebration of Yule, for their "Sun God".

The fat man in a red suit? Well, it seems he may have started out as Odin, the pagan Norse god, a frightful character if ever there was.

None of which means a damned thing. Just don't try to convince me that "Jesus is the reason for the season". Because, it seems he has little to do with it after all.

Happy Holidays, pagans ;-)

Well, I'm not doing my usual pagan rituals this year if they have Christian overtones!

Wait until Ra the Sun God hears about this!

You don't have to like it, CHRISTMAS. But why do you hate it so much? Why can't you just ignore it and go about your normal day? Yes those traditions were borrowed and incorporated into the HOLIDAY we call CHRISTmas. But all your ranting and raving can't change the HISTORICAL fact that JESUS CHRIST was born. No matter what day, we choose to celebrate it. Just wondering, shouldn't you be stealing the last can of who-hash, Mr. Grinch?
=)

Thanks for your erroneous input K-dub.

There certainly was nobody named JESUS born in the middle east at that time in HISTORY.

If you study any HISTORY at all, you will find the letter J did not even exist until the 14th century, coming into widespread use in the 17th century.

Now, as to the historicity of a boy named Yahshua being born, surely there was at least someone who bore the name. However, outside the terribly historically flawed Bible, there is no evidence that such a boy was the son of any god - None.
Any historical scholar worth his salt will recognize that any accounts of Yahshua were clearly written generations after the fact, by Iron Age cultists.

For Harry :-)

I once saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!"
He said, "Nobody loves me."
I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes."
I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"
He said, "A Christian."
I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me, too! What franchise?"
He said, "Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Baptist."
I said, "Wow, me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."
I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.

You are so right about all the symbolism and how little it all has to do with Jesus, but still I celebrate this day and remember Jesus...but not as much as I do on Easter.

Hugs and besos...I've found you again, my friend!! Or you found me? Whatever. It's good to see you again!

I agree that Christmas is what you make it and that's what matters most. Too bad the people who screech the loudest seem to forget that part.

Hope you had a good holiday Mac!

Hey Mac.

Happy New Year!

I agree with what you're saying about Christmas. I'm not so sure about the details in that video, though.

I think you're views are still accurate even though that video seems to make a lot of unsubstantiated clams. If you know of some sources that can support that video, I would be interested in seeing them.

'Cause, if the stuff in that video is true, I'm so gonna start worshiping Horus!

Hey, I am checking this blog using the phone and this appears to be kind of odd. Thought you'd wish to know. This is a great write-up nevertheless, did not mess that up.
