What would you do...

I've always liked this song. Well, not always, but since 1983, when it came out, I have liked it.

It brings an interesting question to my mind:
____________________________

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?
____________________________

What becomes of us after we share our deepest secrets with another ? And, is that a good idea?

....I don't mean my Peanut Butter fantasies, so behave yourselves.
or not ;-)

This is an idea that had to have some inspiration and shows passion, putting the truth to 'ignorance and apathy'!!

Jif or Skippy?

Jif !
Do you imagine I have ZERO taste?

Choosey lovers always choose Jif.

I think so.. Deep secrets bond.. But it is a risk.

Choosey people indeed choose jif.

Ive got a great wife for my secrets. Even better for me when she buys Kraft peanut butter. ;)

ExtraO said...

Hmm... I think it depends on who you share your secrets with.

mac said...

IS, the risk part is what I am wondering about... How much do we risk on an unknown?

OEM, I suppose you're right. I might need to examine who I confide in a little better ;-)

T4T, you DO have a great wife! Lucky guy you are there !

Don't know about you, but it's been my experience that whenI shared my deepest secrets with another, that someone always found some way to abuse the relationship.

Some things should always be yours and yours alone. Sharing everything makes one vulnerable.

mac said...

Exactly Ed !

I'm not saying it's always a bad thing...but it can be very bad.

Like my Uncle Joe used to say, "Be careful when putting your neck on the line, you just might get your head cut off !"

Interesting!

I shared some "big" things (at least to me) with someone who used them to hurt me years later.

Every day's a chance to get a little smarter. :-)

I do think, however, that it is important to share our secrets -- it's not until we hear them, outside of our own heads (where it can be dark) that we see them in the light of someone else's eyes.

I've always thought if the person you choose to share your deepest with can't handle it...they weren't meant to be. If someone truly stands behind you in friendship or love, they get EVERY aspect of what makes you - you. (Hugs)Indigo

The responsibility of knowing someones deepest secrets?
The idea makes me want to run away.
I've never been any good at romance & intimacy.
I'm happier in a relationship if I maintain personal boundaries & autonomy. At least in an emotional sense.
Some people call that fear of intimacy, personally, I think romantic love is overrated.

Great post mac,

You're a cool mfer (pronounced 'mfer').

My experience has been that once vulnerabilities are exposed I become "a burden." Always "a burden." It's a wonderful experience which I'm sure relates to my lovely narcissist of a mom.

Despite knowing the roots, I haven't found a way to break free of the cycle yet. Perhaps only date women I'm not attracted to?

Such is life.

Here's to hoping you find a best friend mac, I'm pretty sure you deserve her.

Oh yeah, why do you people have a favorite peanut butter?

Isn't that like having a favorite tweed jacket?

I've definitely regretted sharing deepest secrets with men who are now exs. But I've never shared peanut butter... :-)

Carma Sez said...

usually not a good idea unless you know them really, really, really well and even then maybe not ;-) Chances are it may be used against you unless there is a truly vested interest in the relationship.

soccermom said...

Yeah I dont think its a good idea to share the deep secrets.

I am totally a Jif creamy kinda gal. LOVE my peanut butter.
Yum!

Where ya been girl?!

Hope you're well.

mac said...

Yeah, Hi Stacy :-)

Do you know Harry?
Well...do you know who Harry was?

mac said...

Ca88andra, I could lie to you and tell you PB sharing is a northern hemisphere thing ;-)

Indigo, I can see why you are a writer. But, are you so insightful because you are a writer or are you a writer because you are so insightful ??

That's some pretty thinking, Pearl :-)

Rita, say it ain't so !

Soccermom, would you share your peanut butter with anyone in particular?

Why be with someone if you can't share your true self?

I love chunky peanutbutter!

Sorry I am late in commenting here, but your blogs haven't been showing up on my blogroll.

If you knew how I was raised, everything I said, every weakness I had was used against me, and that was not by a man, rather people that were supposed to protect me growing up.

My take is to get therapy, keep my issues under control and take things step by step. If I have to tell anyone anything, I do it in very small doses, and I tell different people different things.

It's not worth the risk, and maybe that day will come when I change my mind and decide to give my whole heart to someone. And I hope it does come, but it's not a decision that is made on a whim.

Also, men that have shared their "darkside" with me didn't do it to take a risk and lay their cards on the table, they just did it to play the sympathy card. After they saw that I was nice and tried to help them, they used that to walk all over me and use it as a license to be a bigger asshole.

OMG, I am so on a soapbox and I am stepping off.

So....... what about that peanut butter fantasy ? Nutty or creamy ??

GearHedEd said...

Crunchy peanut butter on bananas or in a sammich with strawberry preserves for me.

Ex #3 asked me once (early in our marriage when she was still pretending that she loved me) what my thoughts on marriage were.

I told her, "Marriage is when the man puts his head in a guillotine, hands the string to the woman and says to her, "Please don't pull that"."

She said to me (shocked) "Then why did you get married?"

I said, "Because I love you."

She used to say "I love you" to me at least 30-40 times a day when we were newlyweds, but I could tell that she didn't really have her heart in it. Then, 13 years later when she was trying to blame the breakup on me (even though I knew she was being unfaithful in thought (if not deed as well), I pointed out her old habit of repeating herself 30-40 times daily. She said,

"That was a pregnant woman trying to convince herself that it was true".

I said to her,

"Then either you were lying to me then, or you're lying to me now. Take your pick."

I kicked her out about a week later.

When I lived on H Wing we had no secrets - only peanut butter.
Now I'm married. I figure that if I can trust her with my credit card I can trust her with anything - so I still have no secrets.

Have a nice day, Boonsong

You have peanut butter fantasies as well? I knew a guy in high school...well, college (I was the one in high school) with stories I couldn't repeat here about produce and peanut butter. Something tells me you know what I'm talking about. ;)

Advice - do not share your deepest secrets after eating peanut butter - PB breath is not attractive!

drollgirl said...

it is a hell of a risk letting those secrets out. sometimes it backfires. SIGH.

Hold you tighter
Sure...But it would be a boring article
Um...No
Um...I don't know...(Don't understand the question)
Take ya home
and Yes it is a good idea...

I had the great good fortune to see Floyd play this live (well, as "live" as it could be), a few years back.

Secrets? I have learned to be very careful with whom I trust those to.
