Blogger isn't updating my posts. Wassupwithat??

OK, I have been neglecting this blog for quite some time. It's just that I haven't had sufficient ire for a good rant. Or, what passes for a good rant from me ;-)

Shit, folks, look at the title. Do you actually think I came up with apathy by mistake? Ingnerence Egnorence Ignnorince Ignorance fits pretty well too.
I am those things !

Where was I?
Yes, my rant.

What the HELL is up with Texas wanting to remove Thomas Jefferson from their History textbooks ? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/13/education/13texas.html

They seem to have a problem with the fact he was NOT a good christian sheep it seems. I've read a lot of Jefferson, and while he may be somewhat of a hypocrite by today's standards, he is one of the finest political philosophers in history. Yes, he advocated the separation of church and state. No he did not say you couldn't worship, or that you had to worship. He merely felt that it should an individuals free choice whether he worshipped as a Christian, a Jew, or whatever.
Or maybe they have a problem reconciling what the man who wrote the Declaration of Independance meant and their twisted version that they would like us to believe ?

The following quote seems quite explanatory (to me anyway):
"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." Jefferson, Notes on Virginia 1782

Like it or not, Texas School Board, Jefferson was instrumental in the development of our American form of government . To try and downplay that contribution to our society is to be remiss in your duties as an educational body.

And, back to me, and my lack of posting lately... screw it. I aint no nice guy after all.

Doncha just love Motorhead?

I have never heard this song and I really had no idea who Motorhead was.

I do like Motorhead, not sure about love.

You are spot on sir about Jefferson, and that quote perfectly sums up his 'theology.'

Do you have the Jefferson bible?

Boy. You're not going to fit in very well in the coming theocracy.

See yew at cherch, nayber!

No, Harry, I do not have a Jefferson Bible. I have several quotes of his I like. I just might have to seek out this Bible you write of.
And, I didn't mean you had to Love them in a romantic way. But, it's Ok if you do ;-)

FB, Sorry, I won't be joining that club anytime soon.
But, I would gladly support the theocracy that worships MAC (this one, not that apple crap).

Motorhead is Ok...I guess...LOL! Just don't ask me to kiss Lemmy! At my girls school they just don't teach American History...I don't know why...

Um I gotta say this:

Jefferson was Minister to France during the Constitutional Convention, and didn't participate in writing the Constitution.

See the List of Delegates here.

He is, however, the primary author of the Declaration of Independence.

Oh, yeah.

Motorhead rocks!

What's history without Thomas Jefferson? Next thing you know they'll want to chisel him off of Mount Rushmore!

One thing I like about revisionist history is that in the future I may turn out to be a nice guy. ;)

well that's just silly about removing Jefferson. I swear people have too much time on their hands. Motorhead sure beats the classical crap ;-) I normally have to listen to at work. I think I'll crank it up and hope the boss doesn't come in...

mac said...

Yes, Candice. But so is Math :-P

Shall we stop teaching kids their guzintas now?

mac said...

T4T, I imagine you are considered a nice guy already. But that's just a guess ;-)

Carma, I agree. it just doesn't make sense.

HArry, Harry, Harry, I was just funnin' about the apple stuff. I would never disrespect your beliefs like that ;-)

mac, what's a guzinta?

mac said...

It's not surprising you don't know, Harry. It is, after all, a very complex mathematical term (hence the context in which I used it)

A guzinta is when one has to do some figuring, as in division...

Two guzinta four twice
Three guzinta twenty-one seven times.
Four guzinta sixteen four times.
Five guzinta twenty-five five times

Had you not spent all that time in rabbinical school, you may have learned such complexities ;-)

It reminds me of my uncle Joe, who struck it rich playing the lottery.
I asked him how he picked that one special number.
He told me it came to him in a dream. He had dreamed aboutthe number 8 for three nights in a row, and realizing that 8 guzinta 32 three times, he played 32.

I told him, "Joe, 8 times three is NOT 32. You are a moron. 8 times three is 24!"
He just smiled and said, "Well, 32 won, didn't it smart guy"

If England removed all its distasteful, slave-loving, country invading, God loathing pirates from history then we wouldn't have one!
What horrified me more was the term 'capitalism' being replaced with ' free enterprise system' - what the fuck?

pee ess - I don't like Motorhead but under the free enterprise system I probably shouldn't say that!

Epic, mac!

I just read the NYT article. OMG!
Not only are they cutting Jefferson... but replacing him with, St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. They are going to slip that conservative religious slant in there, every place they can.

We will see what happens at the state & federal level when all those Tea Party nuts getting elected have a little influence with their skewed sense of reality.

Politics is fascinating, ain't it?

That was Portuguese... It took me about twenty seconds, I was like what kind of fucking Spanish is that?

Like the song by the way.

welcome back.. this rant was a good comeback

Well, one of the "experts" the state board of education had at their hearing to rape American history was David Barton.

David Barton is one of the "instructors" for Glen Beck's joke of an online university who wants to advance the idea of America being founded solely as a Christian nation and claims that the separation of church and state is a myth.

Oh and if anyone is wanting a little update, on Sept. 24 this same bunch of bible-thumping retards moved to have references to Islam limited in textbooks.

"Raping" American history. You hit it on the head. We have our own history revisionists (rapists) running for office in Oregon. Democrats are finally rallying, but I wonder if their idealism & naivety (as noble as it is) is too late?
